Olivenhain Real Estate Information

The rather rural and old-fashioned community of Olivenhain is part of San Diego County’s North County Coastal area. The town was originally founded in the 1890s when German settlers built a meeting hall in the area known today as Olivenhain. Sandwiched between two upper class suburbs, Encinitas and Rancho Santa Fe, Olivenhain is located east of El Camino Real and bounded by Rancho Santa Fe Road, El Camino del Norte, and Encinitas Boulevard. Known for its spectacular single-family homes, Olivenhain has gained the reputation of being a “small town” for some of San Diego’s most elite residents. The community is special in that there are only stop signs in the vicinity, no stop lights. This is a representation of how little traffic actually passes through the area.

Olivenhain’s students enrolled in the public education system have access to both the Encinitas Union School District and the San Dieguito Union School District. Most students start at the Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary School and then progress on to the Diegueno Junior High School and the La Costa Canyon High School. Several private and religious schools are also situated conveniently for Olivenhain’s youth, although the public system is quite good locally.

Located just east of the heart of Encinitas, the Olivenhain community shares many of its resources with its much larger neighbor to the west. The incorporated city of Encinitas is usually considered to be the parent of not only Olivenhain but also Leucadia and Cardiff-by-the-Sea. Shopping can be done at the Encinitas Ranch Town Center or the Encinitas Marketplace, both of which offer excellent grocery stores as well as other restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. Golfing is a popular after-hours activity and is quite accessible for most residents. Encinitas Ranch Golf Course and the Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe are the most popular hotspots for Olivenhain’s golfers.

The community of Olivenhain also can enjoy a relaxing afternoon or weekend day at one of the recreational facilities in the area. Little Oaks Park, Sun Vista Park, and Wiro Park are located exclusively for use by local residents. Several other places are open to all residents of Olivenhain and Encinitas.
